Land Use Intelligence System

Safeguarding land with continuous monitoring validated by high resolution satellite imagery for periodical assessment of land use changes.

Client name

Government of Odisha

Problem Statement

In developing cities unauthorized land use poses a challenge for planned development since there is no structured process to identify a change and most of it goes unnoticed without action, citing loss of revenue from unauthorized buildings and protection of sensitive areas  like wetlands, water bodies, forests, mining, pipelines, floodplains, etc. becomes difficult.

Solution Offered

The system leverages timely collection and delivery of accurate data, information on land use, cover, and condition validated by satellite imagery. Identifies encroachments and generates alerts based on remote sensing data, periodically monitors land use changes with high-resolution satellite imagery. GIS dashboards provide real time visibility and mobile workflow ensures actions are being taken within the SLAs.

Outcome

LUIS produces land-use change maps from recent and historic satellite imagery, which enables authorities to base out their planning decisions on the latest data. Unified alerts via AI are generated that automates workflow, interactive visualization of Land use changes, identification of suitable land, monitoring of land use in cities/urban areas, major infrastructure works in the area of interest, sensitive zones (high security, high risk, mining, etc.) and environmental assets.

Impact

The solution ensured safety of public lands by identifying changes on time. Sensitive zones and environmental assets were periodically assessed basing on which unauthorize land use did not go unnoticed saving revenue loss.
